Active adult program offers trip exploring Lunsford Lane’s legacy

The Active Adult Program has announced a new educational trip as part of its Read and Go Book series. Participants will have the opportunity to explore the life of Lunsford Lane, a man who overcame slavery to gain freedom for himself and his family. Author Craig Thompson Friend will guide attendees through Lane’s journey, highlighting his resilience in the face of adversity and his impact on both enslaved Southerners and abolitionists.

The event is scheduled for Wednesday, August 20, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., with departure from the Anne Gordon Active Adult Center in Raleigh at 9:10 a.m. The itinerary includes visits to the Joel Lane Museum House and the NC State Capitol, with lunch available at The Pit. Participants will return to the center by 3 p.m.

The cost for residents is $25, while non-residents can join for $40. Interested individuals can register via RecLink or by contacting one of the active adult centers listed below:
