Amazon expands B2B offerings with fast-growing service

Amazon, having built a vast customer base over the past three decades, is now expanding its reach into the business sector with Amazon Business. Launched in 2015, this venture caters specifically to businesses and organizations purchasing office supplies and other goods in bulk.

Alexandre Gagnon, vice president of Worldwide Amazon Business, stated, “Everything we do at Amazon starts with the customer, and we kept asking ourselves, ‘How can we better serve those business customers?’” He added that they have adapted Amazon’s existing infrastructure to meet the needs of businesses of all sizes. Since its inception, Amazon Business has grown rapidly, reaching $35 billion in annualized sales by 2023.

Doug Herrington, CEO of Amazon Worldwide Stores, expressed his enthusiasm for the initiative: “I’ve been excited about Amazon Business since the day it launched.” He emphasized their commitment to understanding and meeting specific purchasing needs through innovative solutions. The platform currently serves more than six million customers worldwide.

Amazon Business supports various procurement systems and offers tools like Guided Buying to help companies manage employee spending efficiently. Todd Heimes from Amazon Business Worldwide remarked on their progress: “We are just getting started,” highlighting their focus on further expansion.

The platform is accessible to a wide range of entities including small businesses and government agencies. It provides features similar to those on Amazon.com but tailored for business buyers. Customers benefit from flexible solutions designed for different industries and sizes.

Kerry Wang from MichaelElectronics2 praised the platform’s impact on their operations: “Amazon Business has been a game changer for MichaelElectronics2.” The company reported significant growth due to opportunities provided by Amazon Business.

With an eye towards future growth and innovation in procurement processes, Gagnon noted that they continue working on efficient solutions while supporting integrations with numerous systems. Heimes also highlighted how digital procurement through platforms like Amazon Business presents new opportunities for large organizations seeking efficiency improvements.
