The City of Raleigh’s Department of Equity and Inclusion is hosting a Black History Month Event that will showcase the cultural contributions of African Americans in the arts. The event, titled “African Americans and the Arts,” will take place on February 23 at the City of Raleigh Museum from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m.

According to the organizers, the event aims to not only highlight the achievements of African Americans in various artistic fields but also provide a platform for local professionals, creatives, and community members to come together and celebrate this rich history.

“We wanted to create an opportunity for the community to learn more about the work of local artists who use music, dance, storytelling, literature, film, theatre, fashion, and other artistic means of expression to showcase the lived experiences of African Americans,” says the Department of Equity and Inclusion.

The event is open to all members of the community, and attendees are encouraged to come as they are. It promises to be a fantastic evening of celebration and appreciation for the contributions of African Americans in the arts.

This event is part of the City of Raleigh’s commitment to promoting diversity and inclusivity. By recognizing the achievements of African Americans in the arts, the city hopes to foster a greater understanding and appreciation for the diverse narratives that make up the fabric of our society.

As Black History Month approaches, events like these serve as a reminder of the significant contributions African Americans have made and continue to make in various fields. By shining a spotlight on the arts, this event seeks to inspire and educate attendees about the profound impact of African American artists.

So mark your calendars for February 23 and join us at the City of Raleigh Museum for an evening that celebrates the rich cultural heritage of African Americans in the arts. As the Department of Equity and Inclusion puts it, “We are excited to engage with you at what will be a fantastic evening celebrating the contributions of African Americans in the Arts.”
