Congressman Brad Knott has outlined proposed legislative changes regarding penalties for illegal immigrants convicted of serious crimes, according to a series of posts on his official Twitter account dated August 20, 2025.

In one post, Knott stated: “Under my bill, Escobedo-Ramirez would face a minimum of 5 years in federal prison after being convicted of sexual battery. After serving his sentence, deportation.” (August 20, 2025).

He further elaborated on the limitations of current law and his rationale for stricter measures: “Deportation alone is insufficient to deter criminals like this. Being here illegally + proven intent to harm Americans should be more than enough for serious punishment. Under current law, Escobedo-Ramirez faces a MAXIMUM of 2 years in prison for illegal reentry.” (August 20, 2025).

In another statement from the same day, Knott called for broader reforms: “We must address illegal immigrant crime by enabling the law to efficiently protect Americans, deter ongoing crime, and punish any illegal who continues to commit crimes here.” (August 20, 2025).

Brad Knott was elected to Congress in 2024 after defeating Frank Pierce in the general election with 58.6% of the vote.
