The Carolina Hurricanes will seek to take a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Montreal Canadiens when they meet at Bell Centre for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Final on May 27.
The Hurricanes currently hold a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-seven series. Recent games have featured overtime drama, with Andrei Svechnikov scoring his first career overtime playoff goal in Game 3, helping Carolina secure their sixth consecutive playoff overtime win. “That’s the right guy for us in this situation because he is just calm,” Rod Brind’Amour said of goaltender Frederik Andersen after Game 3. “Whether we’re giving up 30 shots a night or whatever it was tonight (13), he’s going to be the same. That’s kind of what you want to see out of him.”
Through three games, Carolina has outhit Montreal by a margin of 127-65 and outshot them 93-47, with Jordan Staal leading all skaters in hits and both Seth Jarvis and Svechnikov recording ten shots each. The Hurricanes have not reported any injuries ahead of Wednesday’s game and are expected to start Andersen again unless circumstances change, with Brandon Bussi as a likely backup option.
On the other side, Montreal has managed only 25 shots over the last eight periods but remained competitive throughout. Goaltender Jakub Dobes stopped 36 shots over more than seventy minutes in Game 3, while head coach Martin St. Louis addressed his team’s position: “I expect us to show up,” St. Louis said about Game 4. “We’re behind, but we’re not dead. We continue.” The Canadiens trail for the first time this postseason.
Following Wednesday’s matchup, Carolina will return home to Raleigh for Game 5 on Friday at Lenovo Center—a venue that accommodates up to 20,000 people and hosts more than 150 events annually, according to the official website—and contributes over $200 million annually to the local economy through events and community engagement.
The franchise has previously recognized players like Eric Staal and Rod Brind’Amour for their significant contributions by inducting them into its Hall of Fame, according to the official website.
