Eric Tulsky, General Manager of the Carolina Hurricanes, announced that Jesper Fast has joined the team as a development coach. Fast retired from the NHL in June after an 11-season career, during which he played 703 regular-season games for both the New York Rangers and the Hurricanes. Over his career, Fast scored 91 goals and made 157 assists, totaling 248 points with a plus-41 rating. He also played in 80 Stanley Cup playoff games, where he accumulated 27 points.
Fast was originally drafted by the New York Rangers in the sixth round of the 2010 NHL Draft. He is from Nassjo, Sweden.
The Hurricanes have also hired John Stanier as video coordinator. Stanier previously worked as video coach for the Chicago Wolves and before that for two seasons with the Ottawa 67’s in the Ontario Hockey League. He is from Carp, Ontario, and graduated from Laurentian University’s Sports Administration program.
Freddy Stanley has been named communications assistant for the team. Stanley is a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
