The Carolina Hurricanes will face the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2026 Stanley Cup Final, following their Eastern Conference victory, according to a May 31 announcement. The two teams have never met in the postseason before. During the 2025-26 regular season, Vegas won both matchups against Carolina, but overall, Carolina holds a 9-7-0 record all-time against the Golden Knights.

Carolina advanced to the final after winning 12 of their last 13 playoff games. They swept both Ottawa and Philadelphia before defeating Montreal in five games. This marks their first trip to the final since they won the Stanley Cup in 2006. The Hurricanes have allowed an average of just 1.62 goals per game this postseason, making them one of the strongest defensive teams currently competing.

Vegas reached the final by edging out Utah and Anaheim in six games each and then sweeping Colorado in four games during the Western Conference Final. Players Mitch Marner and Jack Eichel lead all skaters with 21 and 18 points respectively this postseason, while Pavel Dorofeyev and Brett Howden are tied for most goals at ten each.

The best-of-seven series will begin Tuesday at Lenovo Center Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina. According to the official website, Lenovo Center features over 700,000 square feet of space with multiple seating levels and amenities such as suites and concession stands; it accommodates up to 20,000 people and hosts more than 150 events annually. The venue contributes over $200 million annually to Raleigh’s local economy through its events and community engagement initiatives, according to its official website.

Reflecting on previous matchups between these teams earlier this season—one at T-Mobile Arena where Carolina lost 4-1, followed by a second meeting at Lenovo Center that ended with a late surge from Vegas for a win—Carolina dealt with several injuries but saw contributions from players like Bradly Nadeau and K’Andre Miller stepping into key roles.

Players shared thoughts ahead of Game One: Sebastian Aho said about reaching the final quickly, “I think it’s helpful because we play hard… our team really feels like we’re doing the right things.” Jordan Staal described his experience, “A lot of series are similar… as soon as we see puck drop it’s what we’ve got to rely on.” Taylor Hall commented on Frederik Andersen’s performance, “Just his calming presence back there… He just seems to make that big save when we need him.” K’Andre Miller said he credits team development for success rather than individual efforts, “I don’t look at it like that… We have a great leadership group that leads the way.” Logan Stankoven remarked on facing Vegas, “They do a good job keeping puck outside… It’s going be challenge for us.”
