The Active Adult Program offers two unique reading programs that you should check out. Whether you enjoy reading books written by North Carolina authors or books based in North Carolina, or if you prefer to dive into a story that has been adapted into a movie, there is something for everyone.
One of the programs, called Read and Go, is a book club with a twist. Participants read books written by North Carolina authors or books set in North Carolina, engage in a book discussion, and then embark on a trip related to the book. The program has become immensely popular, to the point where authors are now reaching out to the program organizers to have their books featured. The authors themselves may even be involved in the book discussions, planning, and participate in the trips.
The second program, Read and Watch, offers a different kind of adventure. If you want to experience a journey filled with excitement, mystery, romance, or even heartbreak, all from the comfort of your chair, then this program is for you. Participants read a book that has been adapted into a movie, engage in a book discussion, and then watch the movie. All the books required for this program can be found in the local library or borrowed from the Active Adult Program.
Both programs take place at the Anne Gordon Center for Active Adults, located at 1901 Spring Forest Road. The Read and Go program is scheduled for Mondays from 1 to 3 p.m. and is open to adults of all ages. The Read and Watch program is also open to adults and is free of charge.
