The Raleigh City Council recently embarked on a tour of the New Bern Avenue corridor to explore the possibilities for the Transit Overlay District, also known as “TOD.” The council members, accompanied by staff, made several stops along the route to discuss proposed changes in rezoning for the corridor.

During the tour, the council members had the opportunity to gain a better understanding of the 744 properties along the corridor and how the proposed changes could impact the area. One of the key objectives of the tour was to support growth and density around areas serviced by buses, with the ultimate aim of enhancing accessibility for residents. As one council member stated, “The goal is to make it easier for people to walk to bus stations and local amenities.”

The tour, which took place on April 9, 2024, was an important step in the council’s efforts to promote sustainable urban development and improve public transportation infrastructure in Raleigh. The council’s decision to conduct the work session on the road and engage directly with the community highlights their commitment to informed decision-making and community engagement.

For more insights into the tour and the discussions that took place, interested individuals can access the video documentation titled “Raleigh City Council BRT Tour – April 9, 2024.” Additionally, work session materials related to the tour can be found on BoardDocs for further reference and information.
