The City of Raleigh is inviting the public to attend its annual GIS Day event on November 19, 2025. The event will take place at the City of Raleigh Museum from 8:30 a.m. to noon and is organized by the city’s Information Technology Department.

GIS Day aims to educate attendees about Geographic Information Systems (GIS), which are tools that help people visualize and understand information based on location. According to the city, GIS technology can show not only where things are but also what is happening in those locations, how different factors are connected, and how this information can support better decision-making.

The event will feature hands-on learning stations, live demonstrations of technology, mapping tools in action, and opportunities for visitors to speak with GIS professionals. Both state and local government uses of GIS will be highlighted.

As part of the celebration, there will be a Map Contest open to both students and professionals. Participants must submit original maps no larger than 34 by 44 inches in landscape format and provide a digital version in .pdf, .jpg, or .png format using GIS-based data or tools. The submission deadline is Tuesday, November 11. Printed maps should be brought to the museum on the day of the event. All entries will be displayed during GIS Day, with winners selected by popular vote.

Those interested in presenting or hosting a table at the event are encouraged to contact gisday@raleighnc.gov for more information.
