The City of Raleigh has announced new day trips for active adults, scheduled to take place in March and April. These trips are part of the city’s ongoing efforts to provide community engagement opportunities for residents.
On Tuesday, March 3, participants can join author Scott Blackburn on a “Read and Go” trip inspired by his book “It Dies With You.” The journey will explore real-life locations in Greensboro and Kernersville, North Carolina, that served as the backdrop for the fictional town of Flint Creek in Blackburn’s novel. Stops include AL Lows Boxing Club, Scuppernong Books, and Prissy Polly’s BBQ. Lunch is not included but can be purchased at Captain Tom’s Seafood. The trip runs from 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m., with a cost of $35 for residents and $50 for non-residents.
On Tuesday, March 31, there is an opportunity to visit the Billy Graham Library in Charlotte. According to organizers: “Step into the 40,000-square-foot Billy Graham Library and explore the extraordinary life and legacy of one of the most influential public figures of the 20th century. This unforgettable visit takes you on a journey from Billy Graham’s humble farm beginnings to his role on the world stage as an advisor to presidents, a global traveler, and a voice heard by millions.” The library offers multimedia exhibits detailing Graham’s impact on American history. Transportation is provided by charter motorcoach. Lunch can be purchased at Dairy Barn during the visit. The event runs from 8:15 a.m. to 6 p.m., costing $81 for residents and $96 for non-residents.
A third trip is planned for Sunday, April 26, featuring an afternoon at Sanford’s Temple Theatre with lunch in downtown Sanford before attending “Bright Star,” a musical set in the American South between the 1920s and 1940s about two people whose lives change after discovering a shared secret. According to organizers: “Bright Star is a musical about a literary editor and a World War II soldier who discover a secret that changes their lives…Haunted by their unique connection, Alice sets out on a journey to understand her past—and what she finds has the power to transform both of their lives.” This trip lasts from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., priced at $53 for residents or $68 for non-residents.
