The City of Raleigh announced on April 10 that applications are now open for the Building Up-fit Grant, a program aimed at helping small business owners activate vacant or underused commercial spaces in Raleigh. The application period runs from April 2 to April 29, with award notifications scheduled for May 15.
The grant is designed to encourage economic growth and job creation by supporting improvements inside commercial buildings. Eligible applicants can receive up to $15,000 or $25,000 in reimbursed funds, depending on qualified expenses. The funding requires a one-to-one match from the tenant or property owner. Projects involving residential properties, locations outside of Raleigh, or exterior work do not qualify.
Qualified improvements include mechanical, electrical, and plumbing build-outs; HVAC and fire suppression systems; flooring; lighting; installation of permanent fixtures and restrooms; construction or demolition of walls; as well as support mechanisms such as roofing and structural supports.
Raleigh’s city government manages public services and policy through its city manager’s office according to the official website.
