The City’s bikeshare operator, Corps Logistics, LLC, will remove and disable the credit card, debit card, and cash payment options from Cardinal Bikeshare’s fourteen (14) bikeshare kiosks due to equipment malfunction beyond repair. The removal of the payment equipment from the 14 kiosk stations is scheduled to take place between Monday, April 22, and Friday, April 26.
The decision to remove payment options from the kiosks was made in light of the malfunctioning equipment, as stated by the City’s bikeshare operator, Corps Logistics, LLC. This move will affect 14 specific bikeshare kiosks within the city, including popular locations such as Raleigh Union Station, North Carolina Museum of Art, and Shaw University.
According to the operator, the payment options through the Cardinal Bikeshare website and mobile application will still be available to users despite the removal of payment equipment from the kiosks. However, the kiosks will now solely function as advertising space, with the payment functionalities being eliminated.
Corps Logistics, LLC highlighted that since June 2023, only 1% of Cardinal Bikeshare passes have been purchased on-site at the 14 kiosk stations. This low usage percentage, coupled with consultation with other cities facing similar issues with payment equipment at bikeshare kiosks, led to the decision to phase out this form of payment.
In an effort to gather user feedback and preferences regarding payment options, staff members are conducting a survey to enhance the Cardinal Bikeshare experience for users in Raleigh. The insights gathered from this survey will play a crucial role in shaping the future of the bikeshare program and improving user experience. The public survey is set to conclude on Friday, May 17.
