With the arrival of summer’s first heat wave, Duke Energy is urging customers in the Carolinas to manage their energy consumption as temperatures are expected to reach triple digits. The company emphasizes the importance of energy-saving measures and offers various tools and incentives to assist customers.

Sasha Weintraub, Duke Energy’s senior vice president and chief customer officer, stated, “We provide personalized usage alerts that provide insight to how customers use energy and offer a variety of customer programs, incentives, tools and tips to help customers save energy and money, especially when temperatures spike.” He added that the company is committed to maintaining low costs for its customers while sharing strategies for managing energy use.

Duke Energy recommends several methods for conserving energy and reducing costs. These include setting thermostats to the highest comfortable level, using cooler water for laundry, running heat-producing appliances during cooler hours, closing curtains on sunny sides of homes, and operating ceiling fans counterclockwise in summer.

The company also provides savings programs such as free home energy assessments that include an efficiency kit and expert recommendations. Customers can benefit from rebates on equipment upgrades through the Smart $aver program. Additionally, participants can receive bill credits by shifting energy use during off-peak times through specific programs like Power Manager or EnergyWise Home.

For those needing financial assistance with their bills, Duke Energy offers Installment Payment Plans and collaborates with local agencies to connect qualified individuals with resources like the Share the Light Fund and Low Income Home Energy Assistance programs.

Duke Energy serves 8.6 million electric utility customers across several states including North Carolina and South Carolina. The company is investing in grid upgrades and cleaner generation technologies as part of its transition towards a smarter energy future.
