Duke Energy has allocated $375,000 through its foundation to support 24 nonprofit and governmental organizations in South Carolina. The grants aim to enhance sustainability efforts by focusing on park management, tree planting, trail maintenance, and litter prevention across the state.

The company underscores the importance of individual and collective actions, like reducing plastic use and planting trees, to foster a more sustainable environment in the face of South Carolina’s increasing population.

The funds have been distributed to various organizations, including South Carolina State Parks, Waymaker Off Road Wheelchairs, Foothills Trail Conservancy, Nature Conservancy, Upstate Greenway Trails Alliance, and Palmetto Trail, among others. These organizations will utilize the grants for environmental projects and community activities across different regions.

Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president, highlighted the significance of South Carolina’s natural environment, stating, “The natural beauty of South Carolina draws new residents and businesses to our state every year, and it’s important for companies like ours to work alongside our communities to protect, enhance and promote these tremendous assets of the Palmetto State.”

Duane Parrish, executive director of South Carolina Parks, Recreation and Tourism, expressed gratitude towards Duke Energy for its longstanding support, noting their vital role in assisting the parks, especially after challenging events. “We are incredibly grateful to Duke Energy, who has been an amazing partner to South Carolina State Parks for many years.”

Aaron Davis, executive director of TreesUpstate, emphasized the ongoing partnership with Duke Energy through the Energy Savings Tree Giveaway program, which has aided many residents in reducing their energy costs. He remarked, “Their generosity and partnership show how much Duke Energy values nonprofits, communities, and our wonderful natural resources.”

The Duke Energy Foundation is a significant philanthropic organization, providing over $30 million annually to benefit the communities where Duke Energy operates. Funded by Duke Energy shareholders, the foundation supports various community needs across the company’s service territories.

Duke Energy, a Fortune 150 company based in Charlotte, N.C., is recognized as one of the largest energy holding companies in the United States. It provides electric utilities to 8.6 million customers across several states and is involved in substantial investments in renewable energy and infrastructure upgrades.
