Duke Energy announced on Apr. 7 that it will donate $1,000 to its Share the Light Fund agencies for every regular-season game won by the Tampa Bay Rays during the baseball season. The company said this initiative aims to provide financial support to Florida customers facing challenges paying their energy bills.
The effort is part of Duke Energy’s ongoing customer assistance programs, which are designed to help residents manage utility expenses. The Share the Light Fund receives contributions from employees, retirees, customers and shareholders, with annual matching donations up to $500,000 provided by the Duke Energy Foundation.
According to Duke Energy, last year’s program resulted in an $82,000 donation following Rays victories during the 2025 season. In total, nearly $30.5 million in energy bill assistance has been distributed in Florida through various programs supporting almost 31,000 customers.
“We are always looking for ways to support our customers, and partnerships with organizations like the Tampa Bay Rays give a great opportunity to reach more families in need,” said Melissa Seixas, Duke Energy Florida state president. “Each season we look forward to cheering on the Rays while giving back to the community we serve.”
Donations collected through Share the Light Fund are distributed monthly by social service agencies across Duke Energy Florida’s 35-county service area. The company also offers tools such as Usage Alerts and other management programs intended to help customers monitor their energy use and potentially lower costs before bills arrive.
Duke Energy Florida serves approximately two million residential, commercial and industrial customers across a 13,000-square-mile area in Florida with a capacity of 12,500 megawatts. More information about special assistance programs can be found at duke-energy.com/SpecialAssistance.
