As Florida braces for a week of high temperatures, Duke Energy has issued advice to help residents manage their energy consumption while keeping cool. The utility company offers practical suggestions to cut down on energy use and save money during the heatwave.

Among the tips provided by Duke Energy are setting thermostats to the highest comfortable level, using cooler water for laundry, running heat-producing appliances during cooler morning hours, closing curtains and blinds on sunny sides of homes, and operating ceiling fans in a counterclockwise direction during summer months.

Duke Energy also promotes several programs designed to assist customers with energy efficiency and cost savings. Customers can sign up for a free Home Energy Check to receive energy-efficiency products and expert recommendations. Rebates are available through the Home Energy Improvement rebate program for equipment upgrades such as HVAC systems and attic insulation.

The company’s EnergyWise Home program offers bill credits for shifting energy usage to periods of lower demand. Additionally, installment payment plans provide flexibility for those needing assistance with bill payments. Duke Energy collaborates with local and state agencies to connect qualified customers with resources like the Share the Light Fund.

Duke Energy Florida serves two million customers across a 13,000-square-mile area in Florida with an energy capacity of 12,300 megawatts. As part of its broader operations, Duke Energy’s electric utilities serve 8.4 million customers across multiple states with 54,800 megawatts of capacity.

The company is focused on transitioning toward cleaner generation methods while ensuring customer reliability and value. Investments are being made in electric grid upgrades and cleaner technologies such as natural gas, nuclear power, renewables, and energy storage.
