Duke Energy has increased financial incentives and broadened eligibility for its energy efficiency and demand response programs in South Carolina. The changes, approved by the Public Service Commission of South Carolina, took effect on August 1, 2025.
“Some of our program incentives have doubled – or even tripled – making now an even more rewarding time to make energy efficiency improvements or enroll in programs at your home or business to help save,” said Tim Pearson, Duke Energy’s South Carolina president. “With the recent enactment of the S.C. Energy Security act, our state’s leaders have also signaled the importance of these types of programs and offered a roadmap for us to potentially expand similar offerings in the future.”
For residential customers, Duke Energy now offers a free home energy assessment that includes installation of customized products such as smart power strips, efficient showerheads, and caulking during the Home Energy House Call. Rebates for upgrades like insulation, water heaters, and smart thermostats through Smart $aver have been expanded. Customers can also earn higher bill credits for shifting their energy use to periods of lower demand. New incentives are available for electric water heater owners through Power Manager and EnergyWise Home. More details about these residential programs are available on the Duke Energy website.
Business customers will see increased incentives as well. The company’s PowerShare program—designed for large customers who voluntarily reduce their load—has raised capacity credits from $3.50 to $5 per kilowatt for certain options. The EnergyWise Business program has also increased customer incentives. On average, incentive amounts across many business energy efficiency programs have risen by 20% to 25%. Assistance programs have been updated to provide more options for qualifying customers in 2025. Those struggling with utility bills may qualify for aid from government or nonprofit sources, as well as flexible payment arrangements through Duke Energy’s Share the Light Fund and other resources aimed at helping manage usage and expenses.
