Duke Energy has successfully restored power to over 41,000 customers in southwest Ohio and northern Kentucky following severe storms that caused more than 48,000 outages. As of 10:15 a.m. ET, around 7,000 customers remain without electricity.

The company deployed power line technicians, tree trimmers, damage assessors, and support personnel to address the damage caused by wind gusts reaching up to 65 miles per hour. These winds downed trees, power lines, and poles across the region.

Duke Energy will post estimated restoration times for specific areas on its website at duke-energy.com/outages. Customers registered for text alerts will receive notifications when these times are available.

Clint Carnahan, general manager of emergency preparedness at Duke Energy, expressed gratitude for customer patience: “I want to thank our customers for their patience and understanding as our crews work quickly and safely to restore power.”

The company prioritizes repairing large power lines and infrastructure affecting the most significant number of customers first. Essential services such as hospitals and water facilities are also prioritized before addressing neighborhood-specific issues.

Customers can report outages through various channels including visiting duke-energy.com, using the Duke Energy mobile app, texting OUT to 57801 (standard charges may apply), or calling their automated system at 1.800.343.3525.

Duke Energy Ohio/Kentucky serves approximately 910,000 electric customers in a service area spanning 3,000 square miles and provides natural gas service to 560,000 customers over a 2,650-square-mile area.

As one of America’s largest energy holding companies headquartered in Charlotte, N.C., Duke Energy is undergoing an energy transition focused on grid upgrades and cleaner generation methods while maintaining customer reliability and value.
