Engage Raleigh Expo brings focus to intergenerational community building

Nearly 300 people and 90 exhibitors participated in the second annual Engage Raleigh Expo, held on September 13, 2025. The event focused on community engagement and collaboration within Raleigh.

Dr. Valencia Hicks-Harris, Executive Director of Empower All, Inc., delivered the keynote address centered around the theme “One Community, Many Generations.” She spoke about the importance of connecting different generations and sharing experiences to build stronger communities. According to Dr. Hicks-Harris, “Her message emphasized the value of intergenerational connections, shared experiences, and building stronger communities.”

The expo included workshops covering a range of topics such as legacy building, fostering relationships across generations, digital literacy skills, storytelling techniques, community preparedness strategies, and support for college students. These sessions provided practical ways for residents to become more involved in their city.

A statement from the City of Raleigh and its Community Engagement Department read: “On behalf of the City of Raleigh and the Community Engagement Department, we thank everyone who joined us to learn, share, and celebrate community.”

The event also featured interactive activities like a community art session exploring what contributes to strong and resilient lives among Raleigh residents.
