Environmental Air Systems, LLC, a company specializing in volumetric modular manufacturing of HVAC infrastructure, will establish a new production operation in Asheboro, Randolph County. The move is expected to bring 300 jobs and an investment of approximately $20 million to the region.
Governor Josh Stein commented on the expansion, stating, “North Carolina continues to be a leader in advanced manufacturing, and Environmental Air Systems’ expansion to Randolph County reflects the strength and talent of our workforce. This project will create hundreds of new jobs, support local families, and strengthen our state’s role in innovative industrial solutions.”
The company, which operates as a subsidiary of Comfort Systems USA, Inc., has maintained a presence in North Carolina’s Triad region since 1953. The new facility will feature 300,000 square feet dedicated to producing sub-assemblies for industries such as pharmaceuticals, data centers, semiconductors, healthcare, and other mission-critical sectors. Products manufactured at this site are intended for both regional and national markets.
Allen Absher, President of EAS – Manufacturing said: “EAS is proud to announce the continued expansion of our operations in North Carolina. For over 70 years, we have been a dedicated part of the business community in this state and are fortunate to be in a position to generate more local employment opportunities. EAS is steadfast in its commitment to provide our customers with state-of-the-art, complex projects and to build an enduring legacy for our employees.”
North Carolina Commerce Secretary Lee Lilley noted the significance of the project: “EAS’s decision to expand into Asheboro demonstrates the growing demand for North Carolina’s skilled workforce and business-friendly environment. This project will drive economic growth and enhance our state’s competitiveness in advanced modular manufacturing.”
The anticipated annual payroll impact from these jobs is estimated at over $16.5 million for the local economy.
A Job Development Investment Grant (JDIG) approved by the Economic Investment Committee will help facilitate this expansion. Over a period of 12 years, it is projected that the project will increase North Carolina’s economy by $732 million. Under this agreement—and dependent on job creation and investment targets being met—the company may receive up to $3,289,000 in reimbursements over twelve years.
N.C. Senator Dave Craven described the development as “a huge win for Randolph County and North Carolina,” adding: “Environmental Air Systems’ expansion will create high-quality, skilled trade jobs right here in Randolph County and ensure our state remains a top destination for innovative manufacturing. Our local high schools and community colleges are already well-equipped to train the next generation of EAS employees, providing those students a clear pathway for success and future employment.”
N.C. Representative Neal Jackson also highlighted workforce contributions: “We’re proud that Environmental Air Systems has chosen Asheboro for this important expansion. These jobs highlight the value of our talented workforce in supporting advanced manufacturing industries.”
Key partners involved include multiple state agencies such as the North Carolina Department of Commerce; Economic Development Partnership of North Carolina; General Assembly; Divisions of Workforce Solutions and Rural Economic Development; Community College System; Randolph Community College; Randolph County officials; Randolph County Economic Development Corporation; and city leaders from Asheboro.
