Forest Ridge Park is hosting a series of nature programs aimed at educating the public about various aspects of wildlife and natural phenomena. These events are scheduled from January through April, each with a specific focus.
On Sunday, January 12, from 3 to 4:30 p.m., attendees can explore how animals adapt to survive the winter season in “Animal Survival.” The program will delve into behaviors such as hibernation and migration, providing insights into life changes during colder months.
The February session titled “Volcanic Action” is set for Sunday, February 16, also from 3 to 4:30 p.m. Participants will learn about igneous rocks and their formation from lava cooling. The event includes an edible lab and slime project to illustrate these geological processes.
In March, the focus shifts to local fauna with “Native Wildlife,” scheduled for Sunday, March 23. This session will cover the habitats and survival adaptations of North Carolina species around Falls Lake. Interactive activities will allow participants to design a new species suited for nearby environments.
Finally, on Sunday, April 27, “Super Animal Senses” will highlight extraordinary sensory abilities in animals. From ants’ keen sense of smell to starfish using arms for vision, this program offers hands-on activities that demonstrate how these senses aid survival.
Each event costs $3 and runs from 3 to 4:30 p.m., providing an engaging way for participants to connect with nature through educational experiences.
