Women and families in Raleigh will have access to new affordable housing as the Forward Together community breaks ground. The project, which is supported by $2.2 million from Affordable Housing Bond funds approved by City Council in November 2025, will add 17 units at Healing Transitions’ Women’s Campus. These homes are intended for women and mothers who have completed recovery programs.

“Affordable and safe housing is a core pillar of health,” said Emila Sutton, the City’s Housing and Community Development Director. “By providing these 17 units, we are creating an environment where the long-term well-being of women and families can thrive.”

The new residences will include amenities such as yoga and meditation rooms, children’s play areas, and gathering spaces for peer support and family activities. The location offers convenient access to public transportation, grocery stores, pharmacies, and schools to help residents stay connected with the community.

The homes are planned to remain affordable for at least 50 years. This initiative reflects ongoing efforts by the City of Raleigh to address affordable housing needs.

The city is overseen by an elected city council representing districts A through E along with a city manager responsible for daily operations (official website). In addition to its work on housing policy, Raleigh supports local life through professional sports teams such as the Carolina Hurricanes (official website). The city manager’s office also handles public services, policy implementation, and budget management (official website).

Projects like Forward Together contribute incrementally to solving Raleigh’s affordable housing challenges.
