The City of Raleigh Solid Waste Services Department is gearing up for a unique Earth Day event at Dorothea Dix Park on April 19, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. The department is offering a free shredding event as part of the city’s Earth Day festivities.
“Our mission is simple: to provide you with a secure and eco-conscious way to dispose of sensitive documents while also reducing waste and promoting recycling,” stated the organizers.
Participants are encouraged to bring no more than three boxes of documents in cardboard copy paper boxes or smaller to ensure everyone has a fair chance to shred their materials. However, certain items like three-ring binders, disks, CDs, credit cards, books, magazines, x-rays, and film should be removed before shredding to prevent any issues.
While the event aims to promote recycling, it is important to note that batteries will not be accepted for shredding. The organizers emphasized the need to keep the shredding process hassle-free by avoiding items that can jam the machines.
To streamline the shredding process, attendees are advised to follow traffic signs leading to the shredding zone and remain in their vehicles while staff unloads the materials for shredding, providing a curbside service experience.
In addition to paper shredding, the event will also accept household e-waste, encouraging participants to bring old electronics for proper disposal.
