Governor honors 10 with Order of the Long Leaf Pine

Today, Governor Josh Stein recognized ten individuals by inducting them into the Order of the Long Leaf Pine. This honor is awarded to North Carolinians who have made significant contributions to the state.

“These North Carolinians represent the best our state has to offer through their lifetimes of service,” stated Governor Stein. “I am proud to honor them for their contributions and willingness to help their neighbors.”

The recipients include Alma Adams, a United States Representative; Lynn Good, former CEO of Duke Energy; Spencer Merriweather, Mecklenburg County District Attorney; Jeff Tarte, former North Carolina State Senator and Mayor of Cornelius; Bishop Dwayne Walker, former Pastor of Little Rock African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. Additionally, several members from the Charlotte Fire Department were honored: Carl Bailey, a retired firefighter; Jonathan Moore, William Costello, Captain Nathan Jones—firefighters—and Justin Barringer, an engineer.

The ceremony highlighted each individual’s dedication and impact on their communities throughout North Carolina.
