Governor Stein has issued a statement regarding the planned protests scheduled for the upcoming weekend. He emphasized the importance of maintaining peace and adhering to lawful conduct during demonstrations.

“The right to peacefully protest is sacred and enshrined in our First Amendment, and I will always work to protect that right,” said Governor Stein. He encouraged those wishing to express their views to do so in a peaceful manner.

Highlighting the impact of nonviolent protest throughout history, Governor Stein noted, “Our nation’s history has been shaped by powerful examples of nonviolent protest, and we are the better for them.” However, he warned against resorting to violence or destruction, stating that such actions “risk harming people and property; it will not be tolerated.”

Governor Stein assured that his office is actively coordinating with state agencies and law enforcement to ensure both public safety and the protection of citizens’ rights. The Department of Public Safety Secretary Buffaloe is also working closely with local law enforcement across North Carolina to provide necessary support.

The governor concluded with a call for unity during these times: “At a time of heightened tensions, let us work together both to protect our rights and freedoms and to keep everyone safe.”
