Residents are invited to participate in a guided paddle day at Falls Lake, organized by the City of Raleigh’s Outdoor Recreation staff. The event will take place on Saturday, October 18, from 10:15 a.m. to 3 p.m., departing from the Anne Gordon Active Adult Center at 1901 Spring Forest Road.

Falls Lake was established in 1978 by the US Army Corps of Engineers for flood prevention and water supply purposes. It is now home to Forest Ridge Park, which covers 586 acres and offers waterfront views, trails, and open spaces.

Participants can choose between single or double kayaks or stand-up paddleboards. Before setting out along the shoreline, attendees will receive instruction on basic paddling techniques from Outdoor Recreation staff. The guided trip includes a stop at a beach for a bring-your-own picnic lunch.

The event is designed for older adults and costs $15 per person. To join, participants must first complete the Active Adult Yearly Trip Registration before signing up for this or other trips. Registration can be completed by calling one of three centers: Five Points Center for Active Adults (919-996-4730), Walnut Terrace Center (919-996-6160), or Anne Gordon Center for Active Adults (919-996-4720).

For questions about the trip or registration process, contact Carmen Rayfield at 919-996-4734 or carmen.rayfield@raleighnc.gov.

A full list of available day and multi-day trips as well as frequently asked questions can be found on the Active Adult Trips page.
