Honeywell has introduced a new 13MM Pressure Sensor designed to support cleanroom manufacturing in industries that require high purity, including semiconductor production. The sensor is intended to help manufacturers reduce contaminants and defects while increasing production yield.
“Quality is everything in the semiconductor space,” said Carmen Becker, president of Honeywell Sensing Solutions. “As the industry continues to grow and advance, there is an increased need for wafer fabrication technologies that can operate effectively without introducing impurities into the process. By integrating sensing innovations like the 13MM Pressure Sensor, we can help enable precise measurement and more reliable manufacturing for the semiconductor sector.”
The company says its new sensor addresses a key challenge faced by existing pressure sensors, which can lose accuracy over time due to drift in vacuum environments. Honeywell’s 13MM Pressure Sensor is engineered to maintain accurate performance even under demanding high-pressure and high-temperature conditions, with minimal offset drift. This capability allows it to provide precise readings for various gases used during semiconductor manufacturing, supporting equipment in meeting strict feature specifications on wafers.
The sensor complies with SEMI F20 standards regarding metal composition and surface roughness, which are requirements set by the semiconductor industry to minimize impurity introduction from equipment components. Honeywell notes that this compliance contributes to fewer defects and less wafer scrap during processing.
Beyond semiconductors, Honeywell indicates that the 13MM Pressure Sensor is suitable for other sectors requiring ultra-high purity environments. These include solar panel manufacturing, display technology production, biopharmaceuticals, food and beverage industries, advanced optics, and medical equipment manufacturing.
