Lake Wheeler Park to host collegiate rowing invitational April 23-25

Lake Wheeler Park will be the site of an intercollegiate rowing event from April 23 through April 25, according to an announcement on Apr. 22. The Lake Wheeler Invitational is co-sponsored by the women’s rowing programs at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Duke University.

The event will bring together 20 collegiate teams from across the country, with races scheduled for Friday and Saturday. Organizers have announced that boat ramps will be closed on April 22, and the park itself will not be open to the public during the competition days. There is a $20 vehicle entrance fee for those attending.

Participating teams include Duke, UNC-Chapel Hill, Alabama, Boston College, Clemson, Georgetown, George Washington, High Point, Kansas, Lehigh, Louisville, Miami (FL), Navy, Old Dominion, Oklahoma, Southern Methodist University (SMU), Tulsa, University of Virginia (UVA), Villanova and West Virginia. Spectators are encouraged to attend and support student-athletes during this high-level competition.
