UNC Health has announced the appointment of Margaret Ann Bollmeier as the new president of the UNC Health Foundation and Chief Philanthropy Officer for both UNC Health and the UNC School of Medicine. Bollmeier will assume her role in September, succeeding Leslie Nelson-Bernier, who is transitioning to work with N.C. Children’s Hospital.
Bollmeier’s new responsibilities include setting a strategic vision for philanthropy across North Carolina’s leading academic health system. Her leadership will focus on developing a comprehensive philanthropy program. Dr. Cristy Page, president of UNC Health Enterprises and Chief Academic Officer for UNC Health, expressed enthusiasm about Bollmeier joining the team: “We are extremely pleased to welcome Margaret Ann to the UNC Health family.”
Dr. Wesley Burks, CEO of UNC Health and Dean of the UNC School of Medicine, also praised Bollmeier’s appointment: “I’m so happy that Margaret Ann will lead the outstanding team at the UNC Health Foundation as they work to expand that impact to better serve our patients and the people of North Carolina.”
Bollmeier brings 30 years of experience in philanthropic leadership, having previously led fundraising efforts at the Medical College of Virginia Foundation since 2015. Under her guidance, fundraising on its health sciences campus increased by over 300%. She has also held leadership roles at Cornell University, University of Virginia, University of Washington, Humanities Washington, and Providence Medical Center Foundation.
Her educational background includes a B.A. from the University of Texas at Austin and a J.D. from Washington & Lee University School of Law.
UNC Health is part of the University of North Carolina system and comprises 17 hospitals and more than 900 clinics. It aims to improve health care for North Carolinians while supporting medical education through its affiliation with the UNC School of Medicine.
