The North Carolina Coastal Resources Commission will hold its next meeting on April 15 and 16 at the Town of Ocean Isle Beach, located at 111 Causeway Drive. The commission announced on April 8 that members of the public are invited to attend either in person or online.
The meeting is important as it provides an opportunity for the public to participate in discussions about coastal management policies and rules. The commission is responsible for establishing policies for the North Carolina Coastal Management Program and adopting rules under both the Coastal Area Management Act (CAMA) and the North Carolina Dredge and Fill Act.
On April 15, a field trip to the Ocean Isle Beach Terminal Groin will begin at 3 p.m. The full commission meeting will start at 9 a.m. on April 16, with an in-person public comment period scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Attendees who wish to speak may sign up upon arrival.
Those unable to attend in person can join the full CRC meeting via DEQ’s YouTube channel. Meeting agendas and briefing materials are available on the CRC website, though officials note that individual agenda items may change order during proceedings.
The commission also designates areas of environmental concern, adopts rules and policies for coastal development within those areas, and certifies local land use plans. These responsibilities play a key role in managing development along North Carolina’s coastlines.
Looking ahead, participation from residents and stakeholders is encouraged as these meetings shape decisions affecting coastal communities.
