The North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s State Energy Office is currently inviting public input on the 2025 Draft North Carolina Energy Security Plan. Feedback will be accepted until July 14, 2025.

This draft plan evaluates various threats and vulnerabilities facing the state’s energy system, such as severe weather, cybersecurity issues, aging infrastructure, and potential physical attacks. It also considers supply interdependencies and other hazards. The plan includes strategies to mitigate these risks by proposing solutions like deploying microgrids, enhancing infrastructure resilience, adopting cybersecurity measures, diversifying energy resources, and implementing grid-enhancing technologies. Additionally, it outlines how to coordinate responses to energy emergencies.

The energy system in North Carolina plays a crucial role in supporting the state’s economy and maintaining health and safety infrastructure. The strategies recommended in the plan aim to improve the resilience and reliability of this system while minimizing disruptions and their impacts.

Members of the public are encouraged to send their feedback via email to seo.publiccomments@deq.nc.gov with “2025 NC Energy Security Plan” as the subject line. The draft plan is available for review online.
