The advisory board provides input on program design aspects such as workforce development, consumer protection, outreach and communication, financial incentive design, and program eligibility.

In April 2024, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency awarded $156 million to EnergizeNC to expand access to solar energy in low-income communities. The coalition is led by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality’s State Energy Office and includes partners like the NC Clean Energy Technology Center. The program aims to reduce energy costs for residents and create jobs while providing access to affordable energy. Services are expected to launch in late 2025.
