The North Carolina Source Water Collaborative announced on April 29 the recipient of its Source Water Protection Award during the annual conference of the Water Resources Research Institute last month.
The awards program is intended to recognize individuals and organizations who take steps to protect sources of public drinking water. Any person, group, organization, or agency involved in activities safeguarding drinking water at its source is eligible for this recognition.
This year, Jeff Lineberger received the Leadership Award for his efforts with the Catawba-Wateree System of Reservoirs. The Department of Environmental Quality provides leadership for the North Carolina Source Water Collaborative, which includes volunteers from non-profit organizations, universities, government agencies at all levels, professional associations and regional councils.
According to the press release, “The group develops and supports strategies that preserve lakes, streams, rivers and aquifers used for drinking water, as well as the land that protects and recharges these sources of water.”
