The unemployment rate in North Carolina for June 2025 remained steady at 3.7 percent, the same as May’s revised figure. Nationally, the unemployment rate saw a slight decrease of 0.1 percentage point to 4.1 percent.
Compared to the previous year, North Carolina’s unemployment rate rose by 0.1 percentage point. The state experienced a decline in employment numbers with a reduction of 3,023 individuals employed over the month and a total decrease of 6,560 over the year. The number of unemployed individuals increased by 464 over the month and rose by 5,610 compared to last year.
In June, seasonally adjusted Total Nonfarm employment increased by 5,000 to reach a total of 5,099,200 jobs. Sectors that saw job growth included Private Education & Health Services (3,600), Construction (2,300), Leisure & Hospitality Services (2,100), Professional & Business Services (1,400), Financial Activities (800), and Government (400). However, some sectors experienced declines: Trade, Transportation & Utilities lost 4,000 jobs; Manufacturing lost 1,300; Information decreased by 100; Other Services also decreased by 100; and Mining & Logging saw a reduction of 100 jobs.
Since June last year, Total Nonfarm jobs have increased by 80,200 with gains in both the Total Private sector (66,600) and Government (13,600). Significant industry increases were noted in Private Education & Health Services (26,600), Professional & Business Services (19,200), Government (13,600), Construction (10,200), Trade Transportation & Utilities (7,900), Leisure & Hospitality Services (4,900), Other Services (4,100), and Financial Activities (1,800). Manufacturing saw a decrease of 7,100 jobs while Information declined by 1,000 jobs over the same period. Mining & Logging employment remained stable throughout the year.
