Crews working on the Blue Ridge Road Bike & Pedestrian Project in Raleigh are set to install new bridge sections that aim to improve safety and convenience for pedestrians and cyclists. To carry out this work, overnight lane closures will take place on Wade Avenue on two separate weekends in October.
The first closure is scheduled from Friday night, October 3, through early Saturday morning, October 4, as crews set the bridge span over eastbound Wade Avenue. The second closure will occur from Friday night, October 10, into Saturday morning, October 11, for work on the westbound side.
During these times, traffic on Wade Avenue will be reduced and rerouted up the Blue Ridge Road off-ramp before rejoining the avenue on the other side. Blue Ridge Road itself will remain open throughout the closures. One lane of Wade Avenue will close between 10:00 p.m. and 11:00 p.m., with all lanes closed from 11:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. At 7:00 a.m., traffic will resume with one lane still closed until all lanes reopen at 8:30 a.m.
The city advises drivers to follow posted detours and signage and to expect additional travel time during these overnight operations.
“We appreciate your patience as we work to make Blue Ridge Road safer and more accessible for pedestrians and cyclists,” city officials stated.
