The Building Up-fit Grant is designed to aid small business owners who wish to repurpose vacant or underutilized commercial spaces within Raleigh. It offers a matching reimbursement of up to $15,000 or $25,000 depending on qualified expenses. Eligible improvements include interior work such as mechanical and electrical build-outs, HVAC systems, flooring installation, lighting enhancements, permanent fixtures installation including restrooms and new walls construction.
“The grant is a one-to-one match reimbursement by the tenant or property owner,” according to city officials. Residential properties and those outside Raleigh are not eligible for this program.
Another initiative is the Facade Rehabilitation Grant which focuses on enhancing the exterior of commercial buildings. Property owners can receive up to $10,000 in matching funds for refurbishments that improve community aesthetics and stimulate economic activity. Qualified projects include removal of false fronts like aluminum panels and repair or replacement of windows and doors.
The city encourages interested parties to learn more about these programs through their respective information channels.
