Mark Wittenburg, Chief Information Officer for the City of Raleigh, was named one of Government Technology’s Top 25 Doers, Dreamers and Drivers, according to a May 4 announcement. The award recognizes individuals who are shaping the future of public service through innovation and leadership.

The recognition highlights the growing importance of technology in delivering city services. It underscores how digital tools and infrastructure can improve everyday life for residents by making government more accessible and efficient.

Wittenburg said this achievement reflects teamwork within his department. “Achievements like this don’t happen in isolation,” Wittenburg said. “They are the result of a team that is deeply committed to serving the community and constantly looking for better ways to deliver services.”

Raleigh’s Information Technology Department is responsible for maintaining essential systems, supporting city staff, and launching digital platforms that help residents access services more easily. The department plays a key role in ensuring online bill payments, quick access to information, and convenient interactions with local government. These efforts support nearly every aspect of daily life in Raleigh.

The City of Raleigh serves North Carolina’s capital area through its elected city council and districts A through E as outlined on its official website. The city manager’s office manages public services, policy decisions, and budgeting according to official information. Raleigh has also influenced local policy through ordinances such as changes made to election terms in 2024 according to the city’s website.

Wittenburg emphasized that progress in government technology relies on collaboration across teams. As Raleigh continues to grow, he said the IT Department will focus on providing reliable and accessible solutions so all residents are served effectively now and into the future.
