Raleigh City Council approves changes to boards and commissions

At its meeting on August 19, 2025, the Raleigh City Council approved several changes to the structure and names of city boards and commissions.

Among the adjustments, the Historic Cemeteries Advisory Board will be dissolved and its responsibilities consolidated with the Historical Resources and Museum Advisory Board. The Fair Housing Hearing Board will now be known as the Fair Housing Advisory Board. Additionally, the Mayor’s Committee for Persons with Disabilities is being renamed as the Raleigh Commission for Persons with Disabilities.

The Council announced that its special committee on boards and commissions will hold a public comment session at a future date to gather feedback about proposed changes to board structures and membership.

City of Raleigh opens applications for Building Up-fit Grant for small businesses

The City of Raleigh has opened applications for its Building Up-fit Grant aimed at helping small businesses renovate commercial spaces. The program offers matching funds up to $25,000 for eligible interior improvements. Applications are open until April 29 with awards announced May 15.
