Mrs. Sharon Reid has been recognized by the Raleigh Police Department for her 19 years of service as a crossing guard with the City of Raleigh. She began her role in 2007 at Millbrook Elementary School after being approached by the school principal to fill the position following the previous crossing guard’s passing.
Over nearly two decades, Mrs. Reid has developed close connections with students, parents, and staff, earning a reputation for reliability and care. She started as the youngest member of her team and learned from more experienced colleagues, eventually becoming a respected figure among her peers.
Her assignments have included some of the most challenging locations in Raleigh, where she has demonstrated patience and resilience. Mrs. Reid credits her strong work ethic and commitment to community safety as reasons for her long tenure.
“It’s a blessing to get up every morning and see the smiles on these kids’ faces and the conversations with the kids’ parents. I just love working with the kids. Kids have been my passion all of my life, and it’s truly an honor to be here 19 years later,” she said.
Outside of work, Mrs. Reid is supported by her family—her husband and two sons—and attributes much of her ability to continue serving to their encouragement as well as that from supervisors and colleagues.
