The Raleigh Police Department has opened applications for its fall 2025 Community Police Academy. The program, which is free of charge, offers Raleigh residents and workers aged 21 and older a chance to learn about police operations over a nine-week period.

Participants will attend eight Thursday evening sessions starting October 2 and ending December 4 with a graduation ceremony. Topics covered in the academy include constitutional law, traffic enforcement, crime analytics, K-9 demonstrations, use of a firearms simulator, and an opportunity to join officers on patrol.

Sergeant Robert Talley, Community South Sergeant, said: “The Community Police Academy is more than just an educational program—it’s about building relationships. It fosters meaningful conversations between officers and residents, helping us all better understand and serve one another.”

Class size is limited to 25 people to allow for a more personalized experience. Applications require a background check and must be submitted by August 21. Applicants will be notified of their status by September 12.

Those interested can apply online by August 21 or contact Sergeant Robert Talley at 984-960-7522 or RPDCommunityAcademy@raleighnc.gov for more information.
