Raleigh Police Chief Rico Boyce presented the Summer Action Plan 2025 to city officials on June 10, 2025. The plan is designed to enhance safety and well-being in Raleigh from June 1 to August 31. It will use crime-prevention technology and involve partnering agencies and community organizations.

Chief Boyce’s initiative emphasizes community engagement, operational efficiency, and strategies to reduce crime. The plan focuses on preventing crime through strategic enforcement to create safer neighborhoods.

The key objectives of the plan include eliminating violent crime, removing dangerous illegal firearms, and holding repeat offenders accountable.

A dedicated unit will manage downtown Raleigh’s hospitality areas. This team includes a Captain, Lieutenant, and various officers from different departments working together to maintain safety.

The Greenway Unit patrols parks and assists with emergencies while engaging with the unhoused population. The Mounted Unit focuses on community interaction in parks. Both units aim to improve safety and quality of life during the summer.

The ACORNS Unit supports individuals affected by homelessness, mental illness, or substance use disorders by connecting them with resources for stability.

Key focus areas include maintaining order in nightlife districts like Glenwood South Hospitality Corridor through proactive patrols. The Transit/Bike Unit enhances safety across the Central Business District using RECON electric bicycles for efficient patrolling.

Community engagement remains a priority for RPD. The department plans several initiatives such as Cops on the Block, Raleigh Hoops Nights, Police Youth Camps, National Night Out, and Public Safety Cadets Unit to foster positive relationships with residents.

Employment opportunities are available for youth through programs like the Raleigh Police Internship Program.
