The City of Raleigh is reviewing its Noise and Nightlife Permit Ordinances for commercial establishments. This comes after a year-long study of downtown areas, with findings presented to the City Council in May 2025 by the Responsible Hospitality Institute. The Sociable City Assessment recommended changes to how commercial sound is managed, aiming to balance nightlife activity with residents’ quality of life.

As part of this process, the city is seeking input from community members, including residents and businesses. An online survey has been made available for feedback on issues such as hours when outdoor amplified sound from commercial establishments should be allowed.

The city encourages participation in the survey and will provide updates on any potential changes to the ordinances.
