City officials are reminding residents to keep water meters, fire hydrants, and other utility connections clear of obstructions. The request comes as part of ongoing efforts to ensure city crews have the access needed for maintenance, repairs, and emergency response.

According to Raleigh Municipal Code Section 8-2012, it is prohibited to damage, obstruct, or conceal any part of the city’s water or sewer system. The code also requires a three-foot clearance around and above all fire hydrants. This regulation is intended to help Raleigh Water teams perform their duties efficiently and respond quickly during emergencies.

Residents are encouraged to maintain these clearances in their yards and landscaping. Those who fail to comply may face a civil penalty of $500.

“We want to work with you to keep things running smoothly, so please be sure these areas are clear. Failure to do so could result in a $500 civil penalty,” city officials stated.

The city thanks residents for their cooperation in helping keep the community safe.
