The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center is inviting applications for its 911 Training Academy, with the application window open from June 23 to July 2. The academy is set to commence on Thursday, September 25, and will run for a duration of 12 to 14 weeks. No prior experience is required, and the starting salary for successful candidates will be $45,323.

Prospective applicants must submit their applications by July 2 before 11:59 p.m. Once applications are reviewed, qualified individuals will undergo the CritiCall assessment, which tests skills such as data entry, typing speed and accuracy, spelling, and reading comprehension. Successful candidates will then participate in a virtual panel interview.

Following the interview stage, recommended candidates must complete a series of pre-employment requirements including a criminal background check and psychological evaluation.

During the academy training, participants will receive practical instruction on becoming either a call taker or telecommunicator. Responsibilities include answering emergency (911), non-emergency, and administrative calls; gathering crucial information from callers; and entering data into the Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD) system.

The center emphasizes that joining their team offers an opportunity to serve over 1.2 million residents in Raleigh and Wake County while gaining valuable skills in a high-demand field. They highlight the supportive nature of their team dedicated to public safety.

Virtual information sessions about the academy are scheduled via Microsoft Teams on Saturday, June 28 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.; Monday, June 30 from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.; and Thursday, July 3 from 11 a.m. to noon.
