The Raleigh-Wake Emergency Communications Center has been recognized as one of the top emergency dispatch centers globally. The center was recently ranked 39th among accredited emergency fire dispatch centers and 114th among emergency medical dispatch centers by the International Academies of Emergency Dispatch (IAED). These rankings also mark the center’s renewed accreditation status.

“These accomplishments are a testament to the hard work and dedication of our incredible call takers, dispatchers, and support staff,” said Center Director Dominick Nutter.

The center first achieved its Accredited Center of Excellence (ACE) recognition in 2007. IAED accreditation is considered the highest distinction for emergency communication centers, certifying that they meet or exceed industry standards. Accredited centers are known for strong local oversight, rigorous quality processes, and a commitment to data-driven improvement.

“Accreditation is a pinnacle achievement,” Nutter said. “I applaud our staff for meeting that high standard that few achieve. I know our community can count on these first, first responders to do an outstanding job.”

Raleigh’s city government oversees public services such as emergency communications through its city manager’s office (official website). The City of Raleigh is led by an elected city council supported by a city manager who manages daily operations (official website). The city serves residents across several districts and shapes local policy through ordinances and council decisions (official website).

Raleigh is also home to professional sports teams like the Carolina Hurricanes, contributing to community life alongside essential public services (official website).
