Red Hat announced on May 12 the launch of Red Hat Enterprise Linux Long-Life Add-On, a new offering designed to provide organizations with ongoing architectural control and support for their most change-averse systems. The announcement was made during the Red Hat Summit in Atlanta.

The new add-on aims to address the needs of industries where stability and long-term support are essential, such as telecommunications, healthcare, and aerospace. These sectors often operate on hardware and regulatory cycles that span decades, making frequent platform migrations impractical.

Red Hat said the Long-Life Add-On is an optional yearly extension that offers continued access to critical software security updates and bug fixes for any specific version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux without a pre-determined end date. It also includes technical support from Red Hat’s experts. “Stability is the bedrock of enterprise innovation. While many organizations are moving toward rapid development cycles, there remains a massive global footprint of critical systems that cannot change at this same rate or simply cannot change at all,” said Gunnar Hellekson, vice president and general manager, Red Hat Enterprise Linux at Red Hat. “With Red Hat Enterprise Linux Long-Life Add-On, we’re giving our customers ultimate control over their infrastructure timeline. We’re providing the peace of mind that comes with knowing Red Hat will support their chosen foundation on a schedule that aligns with their long-term business needs.”

The company outlined several key benefits: lifecycle flexibility beyond its standard 14-year benchmark; architectural autonomy to synchronize software lifecycles with hardware or regulatory requirements; strategic risk mitigation by reducing forced migrations; and enterprise-grade consistency across mission-critical environments.

The add-on requires an active Extended Life Cycle Premium subscription and is available as a yearly renewal so IT teams can reassess requirements annually. It includes ongoing access to security patches rated as Critical by Red Hat Product Security, urgent bug fixes to maintain environment stability, and continuous 24×7 technical support.

Red Hat stated that the Long-Life Add-On will be available this summer.
