Red Hat has announced the recipients of its APAC Innovation Awards 2025 for Singapore, recognizing DBS Bank and the Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) for their innovative use of open source technologies. The awards aim to highlight organizations that have accelerated innovation, driven transformation, and delivered significant business impact using Red Hat solutions.
The annual awards program celebrates customers across Asia Pacific who demonstrate how open source can foster creativity and adaptability in a rapidly changing landscape. According to Marjet Andriesse, senior vice president and general manager for APJC at Red Hat, “The pace of change in Asia Pacific shows no signs of slowing, especially as AI becomes a core driver of business transformation. Despite these demands, our customers have delivered remarkable results, showing that innovation thrives when paired with open source. The Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards 2025 are an opportune time to recognise and celebrate these achievements, highlighting how our customers are unlocking what’s next and shaping a future defined by creativity, resilience, and impact.”
Research from International Data Corporation (IDC), sponsored by Red Hat and Intel, projects that by 2030 artificial intelligence will contribute $19.9 trillion to the global economy, accounting for 3.5% of worldwide GDP. Much of this growth is expected from companies embedding AI into operations to optimize processes and create new opportunities.
This year’s theme is “Unlock what’s next.” Thirty winners were chosen regionally for their inventive application of Red Hat technologies across five categories: Digital Transformation, Hybrid Cloud Infrastructure, Cloud-native Development, Automation, and the newly introduced AI & Emerging Tech.
DBS Bank received recognition in the AI & Emerging Tech category. As Singapore’s largest bank serving individuals as well as businesses throughout Asia, DBS undertook a strategic initiative to move its digital assets custodian operations onto Red Hat OpenShift using confidential containers technology. This deployment is described as a world-first in creating a scalable and secure foundation for digital asset services within financial institutions. Ang Li Khim, Group Head at DBS Bank Institutional Banking Group Technology said: “Our collaboration with Red Hat on the production deployment of confidential containers on our digital assets infrastructure has enabled us to innovate at greater speed and scale, providing secure and resilient services to our customers. This further underscores our belief that open technologies will be key to driving the next wave of financial innovation.”
The Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS), part of the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF), was also recognized under the same category for leveraging cloud computing and artificial intelligence as critical components in national defense operations. DIS established the SAF C4 & Digitalisation Command (SAFC4DC) with a focus on integrating digital capabilities across military domains. ME7 Guo Jinghua, Commander at SAFC4DC said: “The Digitalisation of the SAF is mission-critical for the SAF to realise our vision of SAF 2040. Cloud, software and AI have become crucial warfighting capabilities for the SAF… To build and deploy the advanced digital capabilities we need, the DIS is deepening our partnership with the Defence Technology Community, and collaborations with industry innovators such as Red Hat. We will deploy and integrate leading commercial capabilities into our environments to scale defence AI capabilities for the SAF’s operational edge. We hope our efforts will inspire further collaboration across the defence ecosystem to advance innovation and resilience in the digital domain.”
Both winners were recognized specifically for their efforts in accelerating innovation through adoption of open source tools provided by Red Hat.
