Construction is underway along Six Forks Road in Raleigh, focusing on safety and accessibility improvements between Rowan Street and Millbrook Road. The changes include new sidewalks to close existing gaps, upgraded curb ramps for better accessibility, improved traffic signals and signage for safer crossings, clearer pavement markings, new transit shelters, and the addition of public artwork.

City officials say these updates are intended to improve travel for pedestrians, drivers, and bus riders in the Midtown area. “These small changes add up to big improvements for safety, here and across Raleigh. Whether you’re walking, driving, or catching the bus—our goal is to make every trip safer and more enjoyable,” according to a statement from city representatives.

In addition to the Six Forks Road upgrades, the city is addressing concerns about speeding on nearby residential streets through separate traffic calming projects. These measures include speed humps and curb extensions designed to slow down vehicles and enhance neighborhood safety.

The targeted streets for these projects are Northwood Drive, Bellevue Road, and Steinbeck Drive. Residents participated in a voting process on proposed changes; final ballot results will be released August 1. Following this announcement, the City Council will review the projects later in the year for possible approval.
