It was probably a one-in-a-million type of situation. On Thursday, a forklift fell through the roof of a townhouse in Cary while the home’s owner was inside, but fortunately no one was injured in the freak accident.
The forklift was carrying shingles for a roofing job, and early speculation was that it was overloaded. A hydraulic line failed and the machine tipped over, crashing through the roof.
“It's kind of like when you first see something and you're not really sure what you just saw,” homeowner Clark Murphy said in a Thursday WRAL report. ”It was standing on its end. The operator was still at the wheel and they had to send the ladder up to get him out.”
The house was determined to be stable enough that the homeowner was able to stay in his home after the accident, the report said. It took approximately six hours to retrieve the heavy equipment from the home.
